InfoWorld Names Riverbed the leader in WAN Acceleration for Fourth Year
January 9, 2008

San Francisco – Riverbed Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), today announced that InfoWorld has named Riverbed's Steelhead® appliances running RiOS™ 4.1 and Steelhead Mobile client software as co-winners of the best WAN Accelerator of 2008 award. InfoWorld has named Riverbed® the leader in WAN acceleration for four years in a row, beginning in 2005 when they first created the category and recognized Riverbed for its innovation in WDS. Selected by InfoWorld Test Center editors and reviewers, the annual awards identify the best and most innovative products on the IT landscape. This award is recognition of Riverbed's continued success in delivering solutions that attack the distributed application performance problem wherever it exists.

Only Riverbed offers a complete WDS solution that accelerates applications and data for remote offices, data centers and mobile workers across wide area networks (WANs), accelerating access to applications and data up to 100 times faster. The speed delivered by Riverbed WDS solutions allows organizations to be more nimble, flexible, and competitive by enabling IT consolidation without sacrificing user performance, allowing higher productivity for remote offices, eliminating end user frustration caused by slow applications, dramatically shortening backup and replication times, reducing traffic on WANs, and even making mobile workers significantly more productive.

According to InfoWorld's Technology of the Year article, "Riverbed's Steelhead WAN acceleration appliance and Steelhead Mobile client software are an effective one-two punch for reducing the amount of traffic passed over the WAN. The mobile client is an excellent way for mobile and remote office users to get better WAN performance when accessing data from the corporate data center, while the appliance solution handles larger site-to-site deployments. Both utilize the same core optimization engines to deliver exceptional latency reduction and more efficient WAN utilization overall."

Riverbed released its Steelhead Mobile product, a software client version of its award-winning WDS technology, in August 2007. The Steelhead Mobile software client is intended to deliver LAN-like application performance to any employee, whether on the road, working from home or connected wirelessly in the office. In addition, in October 2007, Riverbed announced the 4.1 version of RiOS and a new Steelhead appliance model targeted at the data center. The enhancements in RiOS 4.1 and the new Steelhead appliance model 6120 build on Riverbed's work with over 3,000 customers to solve the application performance and IT control dilemma that CIOs face as they confront the competing demands of an increasingly distributed workforce and the need to protect and control data.

"Our ability to stay customer-focused helps us continually provide products that meet ever-changing industry needs, such as accelerating application performance for the growing distributed workforce, including remote offices, data centers, and the mobile worker," said Eric Wolford, senior vice president of marketing and business development, Riverbed. "This annual product recognition, positive feedback from our customers, and our consistently high win rate in head-to-head competition lets us know that we're on the right track."
