Russ Harrison is the Founding Principal of The Leadership Group, an advisory and consulting firm specializing in strategic change and executive coaching for US and International companies.
By upbringing and preference, and probably by nature, Russ is a problem solver. By dint of his professional path, he is also a deeply engaged student of leadership and teaming.
He has enjoyed a 40+ year career with multiple occasions as CEO, business unit leader and pragmatic strategist. Together with the men and women with whom he was fortunate to work, Russ created new companies, improved performance in under-achieving businesses, and guided executives, board members and operational organizations through the inevitable challenges and transitions that accompany growth.
Russ received his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Southern California, and an MBA with Honors from Saint Mary's College of California. Russ began his life after college as an Officer in the US Marine Corps, where he served and was twice wounded as a Platoon Leader in Vietnam, as Marine Corps liaison to the White House, and at the Marine Barracks, Washington DC.
In business, his first stop was with the then fledgling Electronic Data Systems. In the years after, Russ served as Senior Vice President at Bank of America, as Chief Information Officer at McKesson and at SITA Telecommunications Holdings (a global communications firm in Paris), and as Founding President of American Airlines' Information Technology subsidiary. During the last two-dozen years, Russ has served as CEO of entrepreneurial and next-stage companies in both information and medical device technologies.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors at Brown and Caldwell Incorporated, a national environmental engineering firm. He has also served as President of the Board of Regents, and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Saint Mary's College of California.
Having created The Leadership Group, Russ continues to share his experience with aspiring teams and with senior and chief executives who seek to broaden their own insight in leadership, problem solving, strategy and effective team collaboration.
In addition to the companies and individuals to whom Russ is a trusted advisor, he has contributed as visiting lecturer on Leadership in the Flag and General Officer executive program at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey California; as Adjunct Professor in Leadership and Strategy at Saint Mary's College graduate school of business; and, as lecturer on Leadership for the MBA program of La Salle University, Barcelona, Spain.
